I’ve figured out that I’m old. How you probably would ask yourself.. Years back when I started out with this thing of going to pub’s I was looking at these old guys (hummm), and decided that if I didn’t have anything better to do on a saturday night than going to the pub and watch the game on TV when I would be at their age – I would shoot myself (well I’m still here).
Today I went to the pub to have a pint or two, and read the paper, and meet this familiar face – the son of a colleague. I’m old…

Last week I was fortunate enough to be able to go to Dublin (yep, that place) – mostly because I had to deliver training, and I’m not the one to say no, especially because I’ve never been to Dublin before.
I have to say that these Irish people are very nice, and extremly frindly – ok, I have to compare to The Netherlands, but still. For example I had to catch a taxi to the airport (to go home), and the ATM across the road was broken, so the nice lady in the reception of the hotel offered me to take some money off my credit card, see that is not something one is use to anywhere else.
But back to the black stuff, also in normal speach know as Guinness (and should not be drunk in lesser measures than pints), it a black substance which recembles tar, and it contains just enough alcohol to make you happy after a while (that is if you’re not drinking it because you like it). Guinness had a problem back in the 80′s, and started an enormously ad’ campain to get people to drink it (again, as they have been around for a few years) – well it worked.
They have a museum (The Guinness Store House), where you can go a learn about Guinness and the history, the quick link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guinness (please if you serve this for peple read how to pour it), or just go to www.guinness.com

What I like is this, “small” can’ed guiness:

That is a lot of water….
Oh, the good thing is that when you’ve done with the tour of the Store House, you will end up on the top floor where the is a bar, and they will serve you a feee pint of The Black Stuff. And at the same time you will have a grant view of Dublin.

My all time favorite quote:
"NO ADMITTANCE. NOT EVEN TO AUTHORIZED PERSONNEL. YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME HERE. GO AWAY."
from Mostly Harmless, by Douglas Adams.

Lately I have found that life, can actually get a bit borring – eventhough I spend alot of time trying to make it the oposite. So to change that I found that I had to do something (with some help from some frinds). First find a new hobby, which is quite safe, but still no so safe that you will end up being bored. So said (one should learn to keep once mouth shout), my friends aranged for me to get motorcycle lessons, which after some time I actually find excelent fun (except when it is raining, and windy, and cold – right we’re in Feb…).
Another thing one should do once in a while – change job, luckily for me I work in a company where it is possible to change job, without changing company. So I will start in a new job, get new colleagues (new and new is a definition), and move all my stuff into another room….
See making life more interesting can actually be quite easy.

I’m one of these people who do not understand Christmas very well. Depending on where you live you will see Christmas excebitions in shop windows from the end of september. Which for me is way to early, and for me it means that when I get to Dec. 24′th. I do not really have the energy to get in to Christmas mode….
Shops should not put anything in the windows regarding Christmas until middel November, which would mean that I would actually be able to enjoy the much talked about season.

I remember that a few years back I saw a documentary on TV about kids in South America, which as always takes me aback. Now this week I saw something on I think on BBC World about a program which is setup by Ex. Reuters photojournalist Nancy McGirr, and this was about the same program.
The program I talking about is fotokids.org this is a program to which is trying to provide kids (from 7 – 19) a way to document their lifes, and the world around them.
I feel it kind of difficult to explain why it always make me think that we in the developed world sometimes forget that there is something going on outside our little wonderfull (pink) way of life which we cannot understand – except if we go there, which most of us would prefer not to.
Just to change the subject; another thing which always make me smile are tree’s – I don’t know why, but it probably have something to do with my fascination about age. Not that I mind much that I’m getting older (aren’t we all), but imagine there are tree’s which are so old that they can remember ages where mankind hit eachother in the head with stoneclubs. Yes I’m a treehugger, and I’m not afraid of admitting to it – if you don’t understand me, take some time and sit under a tree on a sunday afternoon – you can bring a book, be very very ashamed if you don’t get it after that. But to come back to the issue at hand; Some people finally discovered that the rainforest in the South Americas are disapearing, they started the The Rainforest Foundation which is trying to stop the exploitation.
I know that there are otherthings which are important – but kids without a furture and an earth without trees, do not really give us a chance to survive as a species…
